Kalau ingin kuliah di Amerika cobalah beasiswa Fulbright yang ditawarkan American Indonesian Exchange Foundation (Aminef). Menurut Michael E. McCoy, executive Director Aminef, ada 1428 pelajar Indonesia yang sudah menerima beasiswa Fulbright. Sebagian besar beasiswa ini disiapkan untuk jenjang S2 dan S3.
Sudah banyak alumni penerima beasiswa Fulbright yang kini menempati posisi penting di Indonesia seperti Juwono Sudarsono yang sekarang jadi Menteri Pertahanan, Azyumardi Azra mantan Rektor UIN, Ichlasul Amal mantan Rektor UGM, Dien Syamsudin Ketua PP Muhammadiyah, dan Artidjo Alkostar sebagai hakim agung.
Beasiswa Fulbright ditawarkan Amerika sejak 1952 dan setiap tahun jumlahnya selalu ditambah. tahun 2006 misalnya ada 40 penerima beasiswa. Tahun 2007 ini kuota penerima beasiswa ditambah menjadi 100 mahasiswa. Anggaran yang disediakan juga melonjak dari US$3 juta menjadi US$10 juta.
Untuk mendapatkan beasiswa Fulbright pelamar bisa mendownload formulir lamaran yang tersedia di website Aminef.
Setelah berkas lamaran diisi lengkap, kirimkan ke kantor Aminef. Biasanya lamaran paling lambat diterima Aminef pada bulan Mei.
Pelamar beasiswa bisa memilih sendiri universitas yang ingin dituju. Jika lolos seleksi dan berhak atas beasiswa maka semua biaya pendidikan akan ditanggung Aminef. Tapi biaya pengurusan paspor menjadi tanggungan calon penerima beasiswa.
Beberapa beasiswa yang ditawarkan Aminef:
- Fulbright Master’s Degree Program menawarkan beasiswa untuk kuliah S2 di Amerika.
Syaratnya: S1, nilai IPK minimal 3 dan TOEFL 550. - Fulbright-Freeport Master’s Degree Program untuk penduduk asli Papua yang ingin mengembangkan pembangunan di Papua Syaratnya: S1, IPK minimal 3, punya komitmen membangun Papua, dan TOEFL minimal 500
- Fulbright Tsunami Relief Initiative Program, dan fulbright-Sampoerna Foundation Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA).
- International Fulbright Science and Technology Award for PhD
Ditawarkan untuk WNI yang telah selesai S2 atau mahasiswa S1 yang sedang menyelesaikan S2 dengan tenggat 1 Agustus 2008. Syarat: S1 atau S2, IPK minimal 3, berjiwa pemimpin, memiliki pengetahuan budaya, mampu menyelesaikan kuliah selama menerima beasiswa, bersedia kembali ke Indonesia setelah selesai Pendidikan, dan memiliki nilai TOEFL 580. bidang studi yang ditawarkan meliputi: Aeronautika, Astronomi, Biologi, kimia, matematika, fisika, teknologi, geologi, neuroscience, oseanography. I see many comments in this site, be honest I wish I could get scholarship too like u guys, but the only thing it is not only high GPA if u could not do anything, u have to create something useful for anybody or government. if you only rely on a high GPA, better forget it if practically zero. I have the same dream as guys, but now I have settle in USA with my family. but it doesn’t mean I just leave my dream, I still dream and wish

I’m really interest with this program!! this program is completely interesting me huuuu :(. how can i get the scholarship? and how about the living cost in USA?
